We stayed at
Rainbow Valley for a night last month (April 2014) and it was
well worth the visit. By chance there had been some rain a week earlier so one of the 2 claypans had water in it which made for some lovely scenery with the backdrop of the coloured cliffs, especially at sunset and sunrise. The couple of short walks are quite easy and the campgrounds are very
well set up with steel fire pits and long drop toilets.
Given its proximity to
Alice Springs this is a popular spot for locals and the 20 odd km track to
Rainbow Valley from the hwy was pretty good when we were there, just a bit corrugated and sandy in sections.
Collect some wood & have a fire, stay at least one night, do the walks and enjoy the great camping - $7.70 per night for a family.
Cheers Stuart
