IM going to Walcott inlet in june via the Munja track, and was wondering if anyone has exact GPS co ords of the camp spot they stayed at whilst there? Looking at Google earth i can't spot anything that would look like camp spots along the banks of the inlet.

I think the sandflies would drive you away from the inlet - look for somewhere about 6 kms back

Gday Lizard, Ive seen photos of people camped high on the bank looking over the inlet watching the tides come in and out. They didn't mention the sandflies in their stories, even though you might be right. Have you been there yourself?

No haven't been there yet , was hoping to go this year - missus busted her leg has put a little delay on plans - I was basing my comments re sandflies on my experience ....

Hey Michaeljp,
Have a read of "Last Horse Standing" before or while you are there.
Cheers,

16°21'51.9" S, 124°56'57.9" E

This is a camp spot, usually associated when people talk of Munja at Walcott.

Enjoy the trip, travel light and slow, spend time exploring area around Bachsten camp. My favourite track in the Kimberley.

Thanks for the co-eds Gary. I intend to go slow as I'm traveling solo. Just me. I'll be looking for great photo opportunities.

Work out your camp spots when you get there. We spent several days there and moved about a bit.
Fantastic place.

Thanks Peter, I just want to see on google earth where the camp sports are. I can't see any on there. Oh and by the way, have you changed your mind on letting me know where the rock art sites you found are?

No, I have not changed my mind :)
If you are "alert" you will find plenty, but beyond that you should ask the locals. It is their patch, after all.

Here is some "rock art" you won't miss...

Not sure at this stage as it depends when they open it after their recce. We'll be calling M.E. from up the track to monitor the situation, but likely around that time. It's still a tad up in the air, so we'll either do Walcott first then Mitchell Plateau or vice versa.

Have you spoken with them, as I may be wrong, but I thought they weren't too keen on single vehicles in that neck of their woods?

I sent an email to them last week asking will the track be open then and will a solo patrol be ok, Pat replied saying track should be open and solo is ok.

Are Rick and Anne still operating Bachsten Camp?
You need to spend a few days exploring there too, and Rick knows all the art in the area :)

Nice spot with many campsites along the river bank but do not camp too near the edge as sections of the bank can fall in on a big high tide.Best to allow one night camp on the way in from Mt.Elizabeth.Good bara fishing if the sharks don't take your bait first.

We had several walks to and beyond the falls including a full day walk.
Some hard walking, but great country.

Only 30 or 40 minutes, from memory..
Getting down to the water was a steep scramble and took almost as long again, coming back..
