Hi All,

My brother and a family party are heading for Alice at the time of the Fink races (one of the party will be participating) in early June. They aren't familiar with the area and though we can guide them to a small extent having spent some time exploring it, we don't know what effect the races have on their accommodation options. They are on a shoestring budget. Can those familiar with the area please comment - should they be booking into caravan parks? Is it too late anyway? Any recommended accommodation options within reasonable range? The party is made up of a 4WD Prado with camper trailer plus a 2WD van. They hope to do the big items while in the area - Uluru/Olgas, Kings Canyon, east and west Macdonnels.....

Any advice and suggestion are very welcome.

Cheers

John

J&V, as you know it's pretty tight in Alice at this time anyway. We have Scottie and Gaby arriving from Canada next week. Scotty is also racing in the Finke. We booked at our usual haunt, the MacDonald Ranges Big 4 some months back to ensure we had reasonable facilities. A good park but probably only basic camp or caravan sites left - if any. Any caravan park can be increasingly expensive dependant upon how many they have travelling in the party.

If they wish to book in, I'd be ringing now and paying the deposit as what ever is left, will not last long.

Regards and safe travels,

Mick

Whatever you find, see if you can get something with secure, off street parking for the vehicles.
Obviously a cara park is easiest with the camper / van.
The Big 4 is just on the outskirts of town, also I recall one on Larapinta Drive, might have been the Stuart Cara Pk.

They could try Temple Bar Caravan Park on Ilparpa road. It's about 20kms from town so might be less busy. It is small, with very basic but clean facilities and friendly staff.
