We are travelling to the
Flinders Ranges in July and I am unsure whether to stay at the
Wilpena Pound Caravan Park or out at Rawnsley Station.
Has anyone stayed at both [or either] - and can offer advice?
Thank you.

We have stayed at both. In the actual caravan parks both can be crowded. Rawnsley also has a bush
camping area a few kms away equipped with
toilets and you can use the showers at the c/park. The
bush camp area is unpowered and you can have a
camp fire. This is where we usually stay now. Overall would prefer Rawnsley.

x 3....... Rawnsley soooo much better.
Excellent large commercial kitchen/games/TV room to use and don't forget
the Woolshed restaurant.
Wilpena is to commercialised with too many backpacker tourists.

Hi Garytee
The first and most important question is....I hope you have given yourself a very good time frame to see the Flinders, there is just so much to see and explore.
We have been going to the Flinders for decades and it is one place that it does not matter how many times you have been there, you never get sick on some of the best scenery in South Australia.
We always stay in Wilpena as we like to
camp in natural surrounds and for us the camping is better there than
Rawnsley Park with Wilpena in my opinion having far better scenery within the Park..
Here are some images of what both
places have to offer, so you can decide for yourself.
Also the camping areas and powered sites at Wilpena are on natural ground levels, while it is very different at
Rawnsley Park.

Main Road turn off into Rawnsley Park

One of the Lookout at Rawnsley

Caravan sites at Rawnsley

Easy access for walking inside the Pound

Enjoy your say in the
Flinders Ranges, it should be just fantastic.
Cheers

Thanks for the photos provided and it looks like Rawnsley is much nicer looking place.

Great photos, Stephen.
We have just come back from the
Flinders Ranges, and we stayed at Willow Springs (
home of Skytrek) for a few days. I'd highly recommend staying there. They have a limited number of sites (great if you don't like crowds). The
camp kitchen is brilliant, and the facilities spotless.
Skytrek ain't bad either :)
