Good Arvo,
There is the Palm Cove Campground 27ks north of Cairns, there is a charge but don't know what it is.
Free camping some 50ks south at Babinda or The Boulders, but you are limited to 48 hours.
The camp site at the show grounds in Cairns has been closed.

Gordonvale Rest Area
Waypoint: -17.101580 145.791275 GPS: -17.100374 145.787445

Overnight Rest AreaDay Rest Area
Far North Queensland
Bruce Highway
Gordonvale QLD 4865
Driving Directions

1km south of Gordonvale beside Mulgrave River. Turnoff at waypoint and follow the old highway north across river to rest area.

Gordonvale Rest Area is a convenient overnighter just off the old Bruce Highway. There is plenty of turning room. An easy walk to town for supplies will provide you with some morning exercise.
Vehicles not allowed on grassy area behind barrier. Overnight stay seems to be tolerated, even though officially it is a day rest area. But camping on the grass is inviting trouble.
Cheers phil.
