Hi
Just bought a Samsung galaxy note 8 ($250 ) and am going to use it as a GPS unit in the 4x4 . Looking at two mounting systems
http://www.seasucker.com/product-category/ipad-tablet/http://www.rammount.com/Products/TabletPCMounts/tabid/693/Default.aspx/#/
I know some of you have either one of these and was wandering how you have found them over time? Is it better to have a sucker or a holder for the tablet. How do both handle the rough and change of temp ie. suction letting go.

We use the ram mount on a floor stand with our iPad. Works a treat.
The floor stand is fixed to pasenger
seat mounting bolts - chem the ram site for details and options.

I've hadjust about enough of suction mounts...there are some good ones that hold quite a lot of weight......but sooner or later they all fall off..and often at the most inoportune time.
cheers

The good thing with suction cup mounts is, the tablet screen will only break the once, when it drops off onto the gear selector or any other hard item Murphy has pre planned for it to fall on.
With that in mind the selection of the mount system will be much easier.

I've used a RAM mount in my Landcruiser, I still had to brace it to the internal dash metal frame.
Best system was to make my own.

Agree, we used RAM mount in our tractors for IPads and found we still had to brace them, ended up having the workshop make brackets to come off the ROPS/door pillar. Most of the operators still take them off to enter information.

Must say that the website posted above suggests that Ram mounts have come way down in price to what they used to be and the product choice looks to be a whole lot user friendly.
Mate just bought a big mother suction cup mount for his tablet. Looks like it would hold & support half a house. All sucker types are reliant on a good sucker and pressure lock. Most of the locks on
mine have failed before the sucker gives up the ghost.

I have been using an Exomount for over a year now and have travelled offroad extensively including the Cape without any issue. Price is US$49.5 there is free postage for the 7-8 inch tablet or US$59.95 for the 10inch version.

The best thing is that it sits in front of the radio and unless you want it to does not block the windscreen.

I am in the same boat! I have a galaxy note 8 and I just followed your advice and bought this holder....
I never seen this system but looks to be less shaky than the car
seat holder I was going to buy.
Thanks....I hope :)

The video shows the tablet moving. I found once tightened there is little movement in the low position as the bottom rubber holds it in place.

Hi Lachie
I have the same tablet using a RAM mount from the windscreen and have just finished a lap from
Perth our to
Kintore (Gunbarrel Hwy and Sandy Blight
Junction Rd), down to Alice and back
home along the
Great Central Road .....worked a treat.
I have the:
RAM X-Grip III™ Clamping Cradle for flexibility with different tablet models (seems a bit flimsy at first glance but worked fine), plus
Windscreen sucker, so I can easily move it between vehicles.
I use 2 extensions between the sucker and the cradle, again for flexible installations. When mounting the unit I adjust the arm to be resting on the dash for added support (put something between to protect the vehicle dash). This drastically reduces bouncing about.
Plus I tried to mount the tablet slightly in front of an aircon vent to help keep the temperature down (the tablet won't charge if it gets too hot).
hope this helps.
Chris

Sorry Bob. I did something wrong uploading the picture but on the top centre of the black square (picture?) there is a link to the picture (tablet picture). Clicking on the link seems to bring up the picture.

I have the exact same model tablet and bought one of these from ebay prior to going on a recent trip to Victoria High Country. I purchased a cover from the same seller. It did the job fine and didn't move at all the whole trip. I do have it resting on the flat dash which does support the tablet's weight
well but am very happy with the setup. Good value too.
