We met up with 62 yr old Henk from Holland in Ti Tree,NT, along the Stuart Highway after he had cycled over 4,000kms, via Mount Isa. He was considering going along the Great central Road to WA from NT. He is wearing a Red top, shorts & hiking boots, & towing a one wheel trailer with panniers. He is very well prepared for this trip, & loves people saying hello, & any encouragement. He has previously cycled 15,000kms through South America, so very experienced. Please say hello if you spot him, If he hasnt gone to Perth, he could be headed to Adelaide.

Last year we met a 21 year old french girl doing the same thing. We met her at Wycliffe Well, NT and she was travelling the Stuart Highway and ultimately making her way around Australia and apparently then going to sell her bike etc, travel to NZ to do it all again! Good on them, but give me a 4WD any day!

Keeping this current needs to be sent as a reply, not a followup.

he camped here last night. Didn't get to say hello though I was in town and didn't get back till late. He took off early this morning.
Amazing how many people do this, we are getting at least one cyclist every month these days.
Personally, I prefer a Toyota, but good on him ;-)

Cheers

Thanks very much for the update on the Dutchman. I'm glad to hear he has been spotted. What an amazing man! I cant believe as many as 1 a month go your way. We've never travelled your way before, what is the general condition of the great central road like? I agree with you, give me a toyota anyday. cheers Vicki

G'day Vicki, the road is in very good condition at the moment, and improving all the time.
As to the Dutchman, by all accounts he was making good ground yesterday by the reports coming in on his location through the day.

Cheers
