Off to an auction next week where 2.7(turbo,Ithink)Jeep listed. I have a 16ft.Van about 1600kgs. Anyone had any experience as you don't get a go at the thing before you put a bid in. How are they on fuel?

G'day Dennis,
I believe they are the daimler benz engine with the latest common rail technology which creates high output with little fuel.My friend claims under 9litres per 100 and is rapt in it.This engine is from the mercedes ML 270.
cheers mark

Dennis,
I have an ML270 and am sure it is the same engine. The Jeep saves thousands on buy price - and you still get the 400Nm of pulling power. The ML 270 has the best resale (see redbook.com.au) of any 4WD (or at least it did when I bought it) and that coupled with the torque were prime reasons for my purchase, plus it isn't too big for my wife to use around town (Cruiser size became an issue!) I do a 450k run every month or so and get around 8l/100k with no significant load in the vehicle. Bought it as a not too soft 4WD (yes, it does have low ratio in the ML) camper tower, yet soft enough for my wife to drive every day.
At least in the ML the engine is great around town and towing - best compromise I could find. Ah, life is full of compromises!

jeep 2000kg appprox. 400Nm
landcrusier 4.2 turbo lastest model 3000kg approx. 430Nm

I had the older 2.5lt it had 300nm and towed ok with a van around that size so with the adder grunt from the new motor it shoul be a real treat

happy motoring

For the size of the engine they perform well, specially in the lighter body than the standard size 4wd (patrol - l/c).

Of course you can tune them for a little more zing as well.
