Noticed a new TV show on at midday ch12
Melbourne.
Its about driving the toughest long distance tracks.
They Use Diesel GU Nissan Patrols.
Yesterday in was coldest road in the world and amongst the difficulties was that its so cold down to -68c that they have to leave the engine running , as diesel and all fliuds in car with freeze in 5 minutes.
For this 1000km road it meant leaving engine on for 5 days solid.
Todays drive is across biggest dunes in the world which are in outback china
called dessert of death.
Don't no anything else about the show,
Has it been on before ?
How many episodes ?

Hi Robin. Yes it was on earlier in the year on either a Saturday or Sunday afternoon on one of the minor channels. There was also a Malaysian trip they do through the rain forest during the wet season. They did the China trip with no air conditioner turned on and just about fried themselves. The dunes at the end of the show apparently are the highest in the world.
They take a celebrity with them, either an actor or in the case of the Malaysian trip they had a racing car driver.
Cheers
Dunc

I had to laugh at the narration. They must have said the word "fatal" 20 times. Talk about over dramatization.
At one stage they counted 13 people in the crew. So 2 "stars" and the rest filming, helping etc.
Oh the other thing I had a laugh at was the mechanic calling over the CB to tell them to turn their heater on to stop the car overheating...even tho it wasn't.haha
But as I said, nice scenery.

Hi Michael
Are they really , we had a look at a couple of still frames which aren't that good but look like no turbo 4.2s to me.

Robin ! They mentioned it at the beginning of the China episode! The snow expedition. They mentioned the V6 engine and showed it without the insulation. It wasn't anything i had seen before. I was intrigued also. Michael

Hi Michael
Talk about dense , I just realized why the cars are Red/Yellow.
I didn't see start of show today, and did 10 sec google search to find they are built by
shell and also told they are straight 6 however I don't know.
I have to go, we are working on a 4 link patrol rear end , but can you tell me if you came to a conclusion, is it V6 or not.

I stand corrected! It is the 4.2 6 cyl! Obviously the narrator didn't know what he was talking about. V6 definately was mentioned and quiet a bit of talk about it on forums and obviously my ears pricked up! Michael

Very good guys, I thought that may be the case Wizzer, sort of like a troppy was.
The pictures show it as Left hand drive - Wonder if there is right hand drive version ?
Actually I would have thought Indian would be right hand drive ?
3 across the front , 3 in 2nd row and 2 in back on each side.
If there was a right hand drive it could be a propostion as a
grey import.
Well the 3rd show is on today and I might watch it - from above posts it may be in rain
forrest , but I doubt if conditions will be as bad as tuesday night here on road to Matlock.

Well on todays show they said very clearly that they were 4.2lt V6 engines with lots of torque , however the following link describes all the mods which are little more than the average person would do and no engine change.
So I think we called it - a stuff up by producers

Looks like the same bench
seat that came with the old GQ.
Lol. Still looks like the old straight 6 4.2 same air cleaner in GQ.

Driven to Extremes [2013] is a three-part global challenge, pitting two specially-built vehicles - and more specifically the oil inside them - against three of the most difficult roads on Earth.
However, inside our purpose-built Nissan Patrols will be an A-list Hollywood celebrity (Tom Hardy, Henrill Cavill and Adrien Brody) accompanied by a motorsport hero (Neil Hodgson and Mika Salo) as they take on the coldest, the hottest and the roughest roads on the planet.
Watch as the stars and their driving partners tackle the chilly climes of eastern
Siberia, the searing heat of the Taklamakan dessert in far western China and the uncompromising terrain of the Malaysian rainforest, with each destination providing an acid test for the vehicles, the drivers and the oil.

They should've just used a LR Defender - would've pi$$ed it without any special build. Only trouble is, there wouldn't be any oil left after all the leaks, which sort of defeats the objective as far as Shell are concerned.
