A friendly update for interstate tourists doing the Queensland road trip for school holidays. Being an interstater myself I have found that the large scale road works has required us to adjust our expectations on realistic distances being able to covered.

Its good to see road works occurring to improve the highways etc , and I realise its required after damage from floods and cyclones etc however covering large distances in a day is not possible due to extensive delays on the Bruce Hwy and other arterials. Accordingly, we've adjusted our itinerary a number of times to accommodate.
We are not towing but hope this thread helps others with their planning.

Safe and happy travels

I just did Three ways to Mt Isa, Mt Isa to Longreach, Longreach to Emerald, Emerald to Monto, Monto to Sunshine Coast.

There were a few road works but no large scale delays.

The biggest projects I found in NSW at Mcleods Shute and to the south.

So to avoid Bruce Highway works go inland.
