I picked up an absolute bargain (<$250) on ebay with this 40l Engel that was supposedly not working

The thermostat seems to be a little bit hit and miss so looking to get a replacement, anyone got any idea what model it is? All the stickers have been removed.

A bit more info and someone may be able to help you. Maybe the length, depth & height of your one may help. Also, sometime these are measured in their volume.

It was advertised as 40l which looks about right compared to my similar sized esky. Dimensions are roughly 620 (l) x 470 (h) x 360 (w) x cold and tasty (beer)

The digital display may be an aftermarket add on, it appears to be upside down compared to the thermostat stickers. I think somewhere in the early 2000s they changed from 39L to 40L. I only know because my 40L in 2002 which looks remarkably similar came with the wrong size cover until we worked it out.
My guess in early 2000s but I am by no means an engel expert.

Speedie70 - contact engel with the serial numbers and they will be able to give you the exact month that it was manufactured.

Hi Speedie

From what I can see from the photos, that is not an Australian released model Engel.

There are 2 real give aways that have me baffled.

No 1 is that no Australian released Engel has had that type of Digital readout.

No 2 is those black bands on the side of the lid/body housing.

Engel first released the internal didital temperature readout around 11 years ago to commemorate 40 years of service for the Australian market, and right up until now, except the new "Digital" they have not changed the top panel layout.

Does the display on your fridge look home made? When you look at any Engel digital display, it is incorporated in the top thermostat control panel, and is read when you look front on to the fridge, as if looking at the fridge from the back of a vehicle.

Is there a small foil sticker plate on the bottom right hand side os the fridge, below the latch to hold the lid shut?, as this is where the model of the fridge is always shown.

Be interesting to see more images of the fridge at see a few more details.

Cheers

Stephen

Looks like the E-series to me. It was the first with the grey colour and the first model to have the turbo fan. It was also the first to use the new refrigerant, so reliability was an issue. It had the original shape (lowish) cowl.

The F-series that followed had the current shape elevated cowl.

Possible daz..

I might have been a bit sus if it was a new seller with no history but they had a good history both buying and selling over quite a few years so hopefully not the case with this one.

it was listed as not working which obviously had a lot to do with the final price. It's being going great for nearly a week so fingers crossed I just jagged a lucky buy..

Hi Stephen,
99% sure from the limited photos that it's an E-series. The digital thermometer had been glued on later.
Here's a brochure from 1999:

That looks the one.. also found one that previously sold on ebay and looks exactly the same and it was a MRFT 540E going buy the model number on the sticker.

Ebay old sale

The temp display does look a bit of an afterthought so measuring the temperature with a logger from work should give me a more accurate idea of the temp it's running at but it tastes cold :-)
