I am heading up to Innamincka tomorrow and I have heard that the track is very rough this year. Has anyone been on it recently? Also I see that the Old Strzelecki Track is closed. Does anyone know why? It's usually easier going than the Strzelecki track.

Regards,
Bob

G'day Robert,
Where'd you see that closed info on the Old Strz ?

It was all clear late April when we did it.
I have read numerous reports of others doing it since.

Have heard it is sometimes closed for gas / fuel line and other infrastructure works.

Thanks Les,

I saw it on this site under road conditions. I thought it was a bit strange. I just followed the link on the road conditions page and it is being decommissioned. I went to the DPTI site and it doesn't show the Old Strez. I am not sure where to go now.

Regards,
Bob

Hi Bob,

Travelled the Old Strzlecki last week on advice of tour company operating out of Broken Hill. They said New track too rough closer to Innaminka. Section between Merty Merty and new Strrzlecki was very good. Section between new Strzlecki and Innaminka was a bit worse but manageable. We were towing a wind up camper.

Ring the Trading Post at Innamincka. They get the news from travelers every day.

To all,

The Trading Post didn't answer but Jill at the Pub said the Old Strez is definitely open. I am really looking forward to then trip. This is my twelfth year going to Innamincka and I still get excited bout it.

We did the old track about ten days ago and it was really good easy going towing a camper trailer. Traveling south we turned off at Merty Merty to join the newer track. I think that the part of the track between the Strzelecki crossing and the road to camerons corner may be closed.

To All,

Just in case anyone is still following this thread, the Strezlecki Track was pretty good. A bit rough and rocky to Frome Creek, a bit sandy after that, and really good from Murnpeowie onwards for a long way. I went via the Old Strez from Merty Merty and that was a bit rough in patches but apparently a lot better than the Dillon Hwy. The road out to the bridge is the best it has been for a few years. We have had three feeds of Yellowbelly since I have been here. We won't be fishing for the next few days because we have enough for a while. Very few yabbies and shrimp.

Regards,
Bob
