This is a question for people on the West Coast,Iam up around Derby and have been using my automatic dish on the roof and have had no problems, now i cant get any reception.
Im currently on D3 Zone 2 do i have to change to another satellite or is it just not picking up the signal.
Cheers

Are you trying to get VAST? Are you registered as a traveller? Do you get the ABC and SBS? Do you get any messages on the screen?

Hi Humpback, I don't know much about automatic sat dishes. However I would assume that it transfers the signal through a "Vast" decoder box. You use the same satellite on the west coast as you would on the east coast. The only difference is Time Zones and you need to register for the West zone which you can do online or phone up and ask to have you switched over to WA. Hope that helps. Cheers

Thank you George and Ron for replying so quickly, to answer some of your questions.
Yes i have a vast system,i am registered,and i get the ABC & SBS when i have a signal.
I contacted Altech and made them aware that i was going to be in the west coast for 6 months.
But now i know that thank you George that i am to stay on the same satellite as the east coast.
I think my biggest problem is the area im in,too many trees around the camp site.
Will let you know how i get on as i will be leaving on Monday and heading for Broome.
Cheers

Humpback
Do you have an android phone?
If so, do you have the Wikicamps app?
If you do, there is a sat finder section within Wikicamps and with the camera activated, you can "see" the sat and if any trees are in the way.
If you don't, I suggest you download it - very useful :-)
Cheers

Humpback. Altech has nothing to do with the zone you receive. You need to contact the VAST administration on 1300 993 376 weekdays from 9:00am to 4:30pm (AEST). They will change your zone while you are on the phone. Make sure your system is on and locked on to the satellite. You will be able to see it change. Be aware that the channel numbers are different between east and west eg 7 east is 6 west etc.

Do realize that you have to re-register every 6 months? If you don't your system gets cut off.

Yep, they are clamping down on it, no period of grace. You can re-register up to 4 weeks prior to expiry date and the new date is 6 months from the original date. eg expiry 6 Jul, renew on 15Jun, new date 6 Jan. It can be done online here VAST Renewal and you get an email with new date.
