Can anyone advise if there is a cheaper pass then the 12 mth Desert Pass for SA?
Looking at doing the
Simpson Desert crossing but wondering why the pass is so $$$ for such a short crossing
Thanks

There is only one pass for the
Simpson Desert but it also allows you access to
Innamincka Common and a few other
places as
well. It's not just a permit the pack contains maps and lots of excellent information which is worth reading as it helps explain a great deal of the history of the area. Overall good value for money

After paying full price for pass, renewal fee is $90 if paid within a month of expiration date. But no way around 12mth pass.
Can call desert parks pass hotline on 1800 816 078 and get it posted or if coming from west last resort can be grabbed at Mt Dare

So you can save $90 by getting there late one year and going early the next , e.g. we will be there in sept and again june next year.
Mind you it take us 600 lt of fuel to get to Simpson and back so $90 saving is not big in the scheme of things.

Seems reasonable when you add in
free camping.
