Some info from a panel beater needed

Hi,

I have just repaired a small amount of rust in a double panel. I've bogged up the small hole and now intend to paint and finish off. Can I rust proof behind the panel with an oil based product??? Spray will go on the panel with the bog on (at the rear) so will it cause the bog to let go, can it creep into the joint and make it fail????
