Hi All,
We are looking for tracks and
ruins recommendations. We have already done many tracks like Mt Gill, Merna Morra, Sky Treck, Arkapeana and Billy Goat.
This time we would like to experience any challenging tracks south of
Hawker. Figured we could do a loop starting form
Orroroo, up to
Hawker via Bendelby and back down to
Quorn.
Also after any recommendations the off track non touristy
ruins, they seem to be more interesting.
Many thanks in advance.

Hi Crusier,
Plenty of tracks around
Quorn, Arden Hills and the Horse Shoe Rim to mention two.
Check out the
visitor information centre at
Quorn for the full list.
The
ruins along the old north road that is Partacoona to the township of
Hookina (not the old
railway siding on the main road) are worth a look, but this road will take you just north of
Hawker. The
cemetery at
Hookina town ship is worth a look with a least one of the headstones (Vogelsang) having been moved to there from the side of the road.
Cheers
Graham

And the old school grounds Caravan Park at
Carrieton make for a good base to do some of that, and the pub might
well be open now.

Cruiser 91
Ron and Viv Moon's "The
Flinders Ranges - An Adventurer's Guide" is worth a look.
Comprehensive, informative and written by people who know the area - Ron was born at
Quorn I think.
I have the 3rd [2005] edition - there may be an updated version published by now. See info@guidebooks.com.au
Cheers

Travelling north through
Port Augusta, turn right at the traffic lights and follow your nose.
The road takes you north on the plain west of the Ranges and gives a quite different impression of the Flinders. Best light in the late afternoon.
You will pass the
Warrakimbo woolshed ruins.
Cheers,
Peter

Hi Cruiser
When ever we are not in a real hurry to get
home, I can recommend this route, and guaranteed that you will not see another vehicle.
Orroroo,
Johnburgh, Belton, Baratta, turn off just before Holowilena, Warcowie and enter the Hawker/Wilpena road about 5 kilometres north of
Hawker, letting you return to
Quorn.
Cheers
Stephen
