My Place Rating:
Willie Retreat is the only accommodation in the Macquarie Marshes and for us, two people with a hiking tent, it was a very welcome haven. In spring the bird life is just amazing all around you in the early morning. You'll meet Myra the owner who will advise you where you might safely wander on the property - best with a compass and perhaps access to Google Earth satellite images because it's all flat and not easily navigable. Really Willie is a place for dedicated bird-watchers content with basic facilities (good clean
toilets and hot showers), the luxury being access to patches of vegetation - and if you are lucky, wetlands - that present a vista and wildlife pretty much as it would have been 200+ years ago. An extraordinary little patch of Australia.
