On our last trip I spotted an unusual van, at around 12’ - 14’ it looked to be made of fiberglass and was shaped like a cone coming to a near point at the front. A bit like a teardrop in reverse from a side view. I saw something similar back in the early 90s, but this van looked new. Anyone have any idea on the manufacturer/brand.

It could have been a Designer Vans Cheetah.

There sure are some interesting shapes out there. I reckon the Avans are neat - especially for the solo traveller. Just perfect, roomy inside and just a tiny little thing to tow. Cheers Toni

Nope, none of the above. It looked normal height and was a caravan rather than a camper and came to a distinct point at the front. I had a look inside a similar van in the early 90s, it had a similar layout to a yacht: bed at the pointy end, etc.
We have an Avan camper, believe me they aren’t roomy. I wanted to trade on a front kitchen Cruiser, plenty of room and heaps of storage but the wife wasn’t keen on not having a dedicated dinette.

Similar to the Cheetah but has a sharper nose. Starting to think it may have been a privately built van, can't find anything on google.

Hi Manfred b,

This is my first post. I am in the early stages of planning for an off-road around oz trip to commence early 2016. Still considering the rig.

I wonder if you saw an IMMOVAN. They are made of fibreglass and look like a caravan and the top hinges up from the front.

Made at Penguin in Tasmania.

An interesting concept.

Regards,

Sam

Oops!! Not IMMOVAN but INNOVAN. I guess it would be best described as a cross between a caravan and a campervan.
