I have a friend of more senior years wishing to drive
Darwin to
Adelaide over the Christmas break. This trip will have a couple of challenges: Endurance limited to 600-700km maximum per day and will require accommodation that will need to be pet friendly as they and will be traveling with a dog. Camping will not be an option, or at least the very last option. Can anyone recommend pet friendly accommodation, especially south of Alice? (Got
Katherine, Tennant and Alice covered.)

Will they have a van? I suggest they purchase Caravan Parks Australia Wide which is a very good guide. Also Badger's Australia Caravan Park Reports provides simple online access to user reviews.
South of Alice the caravan park at
Kulgera Roadhouse is quite acceptable for overnight. We recently had a good meal there too. Also the CP at
Marla is pet friendly and quite good for overnight. There are pet friendly CPs at Cooper Pedy but we have not stayed in them. When travelling that route with our dog we had no trouble finding
places to stay. In the hot weather of Christmas they may need to consider travelling less distance per day - 600 -700 would be very demanding on that road in the heat, especially if towing. Also dogs quickly get dehydrated and /car sick under such conditions. Air con in the vehicle accelerated dehydration for people and dogs. Lynne

The RACQ has book that is called "travelling with Pets". It list all types of accommodation that are Pet friendly. We used it a few years ago when travelling from
Brisbane to
Melbourne with 3 dogs. Worked
well.
