For NT go to Central Land Council Permits Permits appear to be instant.

For WA go to WA Entry Permits

Hi Mary Anne

Getting one on line for the Northern Territory section was overnight, and with a good window for travel. Getting the one for Western Australia was another story. It is not an instant one, and can take three weeks or more, and the short travel window was not good considering we had to apply so far ahead when travelling on an uncertain time frame in that area. I hope the situation has improved because after the fiasco we had I road to the Minister for Indigenous Affairs and it did cause a shake up in the DIA.

For the WA permit, you can also apply directly to the Ngaanyatjarra Council, Phone (08) 89501711 (they also have email, fax, etc), who issue the permits. They usually need an application at least a week in advance, but you can pick up the permit from their Alice Springs office if that is convenient. We've never had any trouble with this.

Cheers,
John

I have done that for the Great Central Road John, then done it by fax from Yulara when dates were known for return fax next working day.

I did now know they could also handle permits for the Gary Junction Road.

We were travelling west to east on the Gary Junction, and a friend had similar problems as me at much the same time with their permit for the Sandy Blight Junction Road.

Yes, MH, we've done the Gary Junction, SBJ, "abandoned" Gunbarrel and Surveyor General's Corner permits through the Council over a number of years, never had any problems.
