G'day All
I'm trying to track down a picture of "Butch" the
Oodnadatta Track grader driver standing at the back of his HJ Holden ute out the front of the
William Creek Hotel. The photo was taken by a youngish couple doing an article on the Flinders Rangers and Outback Australia back in 1989. They were driving a mustard coloured Troop Carrier.
The photo was turned into a large poster and displayed on the wall of Tourism SA in about 1990/91. It was also in a Tourism SA booklet around the same time. I have contacted the now SA Tourism Commission and registered with them so I can access their archived photos but after looking at over 2500 pics of the Flinders Rangers / Outback Australia I have had no success locating the photo.
If anyone can help with information regarding this photo or has any other suggestions on where I could go from here would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Happy and Safe travelling
Gazz

you could
check with Trevor Wright at
William Creek, either through the pub or via "Wright'sAir" based at
William Creek, not sure how long he's been there but could be worth a try

Do you have a title and any publication details for the booklet?
Have you gone into a big public library (like capital city) and spoken with a librarian? There'll be someone on staff who specialises in ephemera.
For digitised Aus photos take a look at

Thanks Sigmund
Don't have a title or any publication details for the booklet - it was just a brochure style booklet of about 60 pages broken into sections / regions promoting South Australian tourism.
Thanks for that link - awesome ! Just got another 4 1/2 thousand photos to go through !
When time permits I will head into the library in
Adelaide.
Thanks and appreciate your help !

G'day Gaz,
Just a thought, but have you contacted Lynnie from the
Pink Roadhouse, don't know her current contact details, but Hayley Nuns or Adriana would have them.
Come down & visit if you get out to the Eyre Peninsular any time after the end of January!

William Creek
G'day All
Found this photo ( hope it displays on here ) - you can see Butch's ute in front of the Hotel - but the photo I am after is from directly in front of the Hotel and was taken about 2 minutes after the plane took off. Just thought I would put this up in case it jolts someone memory or someone knows the photographer or recognises their Troopy.
Thanks again
Gazz
