Having travelled to Tassie a number of times, we just keep finding more great
places to
camp and do walks. Found Leven Canyon, Devils Gullet and
Liffey falls this time around.
One place was a bit disappointing for camping-
Cockle Creek. Too crowded and a bit scrubby. We managed to find an
unofficial brilliant spot nearby which will be our secret. the weather was better there than
home on the Mainland. Thanks Tassie.

It has become a victim of its own popularity, we live on the highway on the way to
Cockle Creek. Anywhere up to a fortnight before holidays or long weekends, mainly Tasmanians will bring their caravans or tents down and set up then go back
home having staked their claim for the break.
There are a few other spots in the area as you have found, unfortunately the place is being loved to death and the closing of other popular spots puts even more pressure on
Cockle Creek. I recently returned
home after many years working state to state, so I have a greater appreciation about what has changed.
Glad you enjoyed your visit.
Regards
Mark

Thanks Mark,
Still a lovely area. We did the walk to South Cape Beach and loved it. Now I am probably encouraging even more visitors.

We were camped at
Cockle Creek the week before Xmas, loved the fact the locals take their fans there early, as the place looked packed but in actual fact was a ghost town. We found a
camp spot tucked in behind everyone backing onto the creek, nice little spot and nobody around.

Good to hear of another happy traveller to Tasmania; it's fantastic, especially at this time of the year. So much variety regardless of whether you want to go beach or bush or bushwalking, or do the restaurant/museum/history/waterfront circuit in
Hobart and some of the other larger towns.
My one tip is to try to avoid the January school holidays if possible; just to escape the holiday crush you obviously experienced at
Cockle Creek. Feb through to
Easter is great, but of course I recognise that's not always possible for some poor buggers who still have to go to work!!
Cheers

I have only been to
Launceston for a SEGRA conference back in '07 I think & truly enjoyed the visit. I go me the town quite interesting and walked for
miles taking in as much as I could whilst there. I would love to return and see more of Tassie.

Glad you enjoyed the little state with the big heart Chris , Lindsay ! I am the same , always discovering new
places with each trip and some of these this time were
Nelson Falls ( near Derwent
Bridge ) Salmon Ponds at Plenty ( amazing story how ovum was sent to Tassie in the mid 1800s )
St Columba Falls in the North East along with Little Musselroe Bay , Cosy Corner
Bay of Fires , but unfortunately didnt quite make it to my favourite spot Meander Falls , got within earshot of them but time ran out . And Cascade brewery is an interesting piece of history . Cant wait to go back

Hi
It is indeed an amazing place - been there twice, though didn't bother with the roads (maybe next time).
