Hi my names callum and I am thinking about buying a 3.0 turbo nissan patrol. I am wondering if there is any known problems with the years 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008? Is there any concerns with them? Is it safe buying them with about 150000 kilometres on them? Any feedback is helpful! Thanks

In answer to your question that as long as they have been regularly serviced the years you have listed should be OK.
As I am now going to be flamed I will say I have owned a ZD30 Patrol 2001 model which did blow up at 147,000. It was a great car and I had it for 14 years and, had I got the next years model in which the shortcomings of the early motors were largely overcome I would still have it. I DID NOT say fixed.
spaanderman, I would go for the common rail engine if you find a good one, but be aware they are very sensitive to bad fuel, as are all common rail diesels. In general they are a tough 4x4.
There are many good ones out there and if any doubts simply walk away.

I dont know anything about the 3.0L so I'm not about to knock it, but I know if you pay a little extra and buy a 4.2TDi, you are guaranteed to make it home. Pretty simple really! Michael

In fact I don't think I have heard of a 4.2 that was looked after ever wearing out. One of my friends got 500000 ks out of the 4.2 petrol, so the diesels should do double that.

But weird things can happen to the 4.2TD models. The Immu computer on the immobiliser system failed on mine. Big job and expensive to replace the Immu which is somewhere on the firewall behind dash. Best solution is to drill out the Csolu solenoid on the injector pump and bypass the immobiliser system altogether which is what I did. But if this happens in a remote area it is impossible to start the car. Must be towed to a major Nissan dealer in a major city.

1999 turbo diesel only 280,000ks going strong put in intercooler and 3" exhaust going well, my only complaint would be fuel consumption.
Must be something about a heavy right leg LOL

Callum

Some of the 3 litre seem to be ok other implode on themselves . We have one at work (ex Telstra ) and it has been pretty good . ( TOUCH WOOD )
Toyota 100 series land cruiser with factory TD or even the 80 series or 100 series with 1hz motor would be a better long term proposition.
Just make sure they have a good service record.
The 4.2 Patrol is also a great 4x4 as well.
I will turn of the computer now with all the punters who own the 3 litre Patrols abusing me.

Good luck

We towed a 3 litre into Lawn Hill after finding it blown up on the track.
Also have a relation who has now had 3 engine overhauls on his 3 litre.
Also have a brother running a 4.2 with no problems at all
All were or are towing vans

Thanks heaps for the feedback so far. So is it just the earlier models that have issues then or should I be concerned about buying a 3.0 turbo diesel 2007/2008?

Hi, I was looking at buying a s/hand patrol a few years back (ending up staying with Toyota). The advice I got from owners that I spoke to who were travelling thru my home town was to find one after October 2008 to avoid gearbox problems>

I reckon you'd be lucky to find one still running with that sort of kms on it! Lol
Yes......they had heaps of problems, do a search on here...........they aren't called the grenade for nothing,!
Sure, you will hear from a few people who had a good run out of one , but you will hear from a lot of people who didnt too!
