I have been trying to purchase a copy of the book....."Maralinga: Australia's Nuclear Waste Cover-up" by Alan Parkinson.

I have extensively searched the internet and have run an EO Classified Advertisement for the past 6 weeks without success.
Purchase is my first preference, alternatively a loan of a copy.

Does anybody know where a copy of this book may be obtained from?
Help would be very much appreciated.
Cheers

Hi Lindsay,

Many thanks for your generous offer of loan however I have finally found a purchase source in the UK.

Mind you, I have had two orders subsequently advise that they could not supply and one order from USA simply not arrive,
so my fingers are crossed on the UK consignment. If that fails I may have to come back to you for a loan.

I have sent you an email re above.
Cheers

Meant to say, you set up a watch list and then when a copy becomes available you will get a notification by email.

Thanks Michael, I have had a watch list going with AbeBooks and two others for 3 months now with no result. This book is rare indeed!

Actually did find a copy 3 months ago in USA and ordered it at $140!!
It was claimed to be dispatched but never arrived. My bank has reversed the transaction.

Thanks Val, no luck with Leura as yet.
I am very surprised, i would have thought that once read, few would wish to retain this book.
Following our trip I have been doing much study on Maralinga, even reading a novel by Judy Nunn. There is quite a bit unpublished it would seem.

Thanks Phil,

Just went to your linked QBD bookshop and behold, they have it listed as "available" so I ordered it.

I just have a funny feeling that I tried QBD some time ago, ordered the book against their listing, then had them inform me a week later that it was not in fact available. If not QBD then it was someone else.
We will see in due course. Thanks for your help Phil.

Allan, Just spoke to my better half and she said that she saw it for sale recently a the ABC Bookshop in Nowra NSW. Maybe worth contacting your shop up there, see if they have it or can get it in for you or contact the Nowra shop.

ABC Bookshops advise that they do not stock the book I'm chasing but they do stock a book called "Maralinga", a novel by Judy Nunn.
It is possibly the book that your 'better half' saw and incidentally that I already posses.

I have finally located a copy in the UK and they have advised that it has shipped to me.
Mind you, an ordered copy was claimed to be shipped fro USA in October last year and has not arrived. My bank has reversed that charge upon my complaint.

Chasing this book has dominated my life for four months. It had better be worth reading!

Sorry Al, you should have contacted me directly and I would have sent you mine. Interesting but such a difficult, slog of a read that I will never put myself through the pain of reading it again so I would have sent you mine to keep. I bought it 2 years ago off Booktopia and read it in the July just before the August Maralinga Mystery Tour.

Very interesting book, fair bit of politics but a good read if you are interested. Actually Alan Parkinsons boots are under the plinth at Tarrinaki (not sure of the spelling) We were there whilst it was still controlled by defence.

Alan P spent too much of the book covering his arse and it was too longwinded to make his point but he had a point for sure. I felt sorry for him by the end but he is a terrible documenter. I struggled for 3 weeks to read that blasted book it was soooo boring but I was about to go there (Maralinga) and I was interested to know the facts so I soldiered on.

Yes, I believe that Alan Parkinson was not nominated for a literary award and there are likely to be some who wished it were more than his boots under the Taranaki obelisk.

But don't burn your copy just yet Michelle. I have yet to actually receive my copy from the bookseller.

Michelle, I am now determined to read that book in less than 3 weeks...... there has to be something I can beat you at!!!!! lol

SUCCESS AT LAST!!!!!

After several false starts I am finally in possession of the book thanks to 'Wordery'.
A business 'True to Their Word'. LOL

The Wordery warehouse is in the UK but it seems that they bulk transport from the UK then post from the Aussie agency. Whatever, I now have something to read.

Many thanks to all of you for your help. This is a great Forum.

Allan,
Glad you got a copy, hope you enjoy it. I got it from my local library and started reading it yesterday. I also got the Frank Walker book.
I have put the place on my must visit list, maybe next year though as this year is booked out already. Not too far from Adelaide.

Whats the best book that tells the whole story from the begining ? Or are there any online sites. Any good links.

thanks

Mike

Thanks Cruza,

Frank Walker's book 'Maralinga' gives a pretty wide coverage of the subject without engaging in politics.
Just Google 'Maralinga' for online sites but none provide a comprehensive story.

The best information you will get is from The Maralinga caretaker, Robin Mathews, when you visit but some advanced reading will not go astray.

Interesting that this year is booked out. Obviously it is getting popular.
