Hi Everyone

Just had a phone call from my mate Robin at Maralinga. He has a group of Tourism Official up there at the moment and this web site has just been made live to the world, so those that read this will be the official first people to see it.

Maralinga Tours Official Page

Robin snuck off from the meeting to give me this information, and I have to give him a call tomorrow to find out more, as Robin said he has lots to tell me.

So for anyone thinking about heading bush this year, make Maralinga top of your list.

Cheers

Stephen

Thanks Stephen.

That is a well constructed website.
It won't be long before there is 'standing room only' at Maralinga! LOL

Hi Allan

Now that the world can see it, there will be no limits to the tourism growth from a very easy to get to remote area.

Take care Allan and Roz

Yep, won't be hard to get a few people organised for that tour.
Based on past posts here, Robin really knows his stuff.

Looks like they are still working on the web site. When I first looked it had a menu bar with links to maps, bookings and a couple of other pages. These have now gone and only the front and about the tour pages can be accessed.

Hi Les

I have never ever heard a bad report about Robin, and what he does not know about the area. We have been on to him now for a few years to write a book.

Cheers

I am glad I have been there twice already it looks like it is going to get a bit busy. Interesting that Robin has stopped selling fuel.

Hi Chris

Yes its great that we have had a foot in the door and helped getting it organised through ExplorOz, having the first official track files years before it has come to this stage.

I have not read the whole site yet, but I bet we will still fuel....I know where the switch is........lol

It is probably better to approach the Eyre Highway turnoff from the West.
(see photos) There is a bloke standing at the corner to direct you .............. no-one when turning from the East!

Hi Dean

I have known about this happening for around 6 months with the site was under construction.

I am only going on what Robin has told me tonight when he rang me.

What other travel sites has it been it, I would like to have a look please.

Hi Stephen,

I don't think you have to be on FB to see it. Give this a try.

Cheers Chris

Either way EO member were made aware of Maralinga Tourism well before the Facebook link.

EO members were aware of it when the user tracks notes were put out by me in 2012.

Cheers

As I was about a week later than you in 2012 there are a few who knew even before your track notes.
A great place, it is worth going even if just to meet Robin, very highly recommended to everyone.

A link here from that Facebook site might be of interest to Allan B. Discesses the Vixen trials. Looks like the FB page went active just before Christmas - uses the same graphics as the website.

Thanks for that J and V. It was an interesting article to read, as I find most others about Maralinga and Woomera.

I am uncertain however as to why you think I may have a particular interest in the Vixen trials. They were in 1957 and I was there only briefly in early 1956 before (I think) any detonations at all.

At that time (1956) secrecy was paramount and any discussion was likely to have you being 'interviewed' in a Security Office. Thankfully, that was not the case during my later visit as a tourist.

Sorry Allan, I wasn't suggesting you had a specific interest - just thought that given your general interest that the article may have been of interest to you. Given that some dont use Facebbook and that link was via the Maralinga FB page I was merely indicating what the link was about for those who may not have been able to open it.

Cheers,

Actually Val, when I look more closely, your link was not to a Facebook page but to "The Conversation", a site of which I was unaware.
However, now that I am aware of it, I have placed it in my favourites.
Again, thanks Val. Say 'Hi' to John and my wishes for a good New Year.

Yes "The Conversation" has some interesting articles but has a definite political leaning. I see it a lot via Facebook. I have only recently been getting into the nitty gritty of FB and finding out the doors that it can open - a bit like this site, many use it at a fairly superficial level but if you dig a bit deeper you can find all sorts of goodies.
New years greetings to you and Ros - and John says Hi Allan.
Cheers,
Val.

For you non FB users as Val has also discovered it does have a few gems in it.
If you join FB I suggest that you put in a fictious DOB and place that are way of the mark, do not leave them blank. This is because should anyone find your credit card or just trying to steal your identity, FB is the first place they start. If you have wrong information they are sent on a wild goose chase. If you do wish to have "friends" on FB they know where you are and maybe how old (or young) you are.
