Review: Anne Beadell Highway - Outback Travellers Guide

My Shop Item Rating: My Rating 2/5

I really have mixed feelings about this guide. It contains a lot of useful information but, in my opinion, the format and presentation make it almost unusable. For example, there is no index so the only way to find a place in the guide is to search each page. The text is tiny and all the maps have a sort of sand coloured background so if you're over 45 you simply can't read it and I defy anyone to get any information from it while in a moving vehicle. Another beef is that the maps are printed with North facing to the right so you have to turn the page to see the track in its correct orientation - but then the text is sideways. I also query the usefulness of documenting the location of transient conditions such as corrugations which will change from season to season. As I said there is some good information here but poorly thought out production spoils it for me
