Hi there travellers.
Just putting it out there to see what the likelihood of anyone heading from
Alice Springs to
Birdsville via Mt Dare, Dalhousie, crossing the Simpson, arriving
Birdsville for the races in September. More importantly, if I was able to join in on the adventure??
Happy Australia Day, Jez.

Jez, just ensure you plan travel to arrive in BV by latest the 1st, will avoid a bit of traffic influx, and get a
good campsite.
Also leave Mon or Tues to avoid a lot of traffic outflux :)

I'd expect that when you got to Mt Dare asking around would work. There should be no shortage of convoys at that time. (And to state the obvious, make sure you're properly equipped; others will look askance at someone who's clearly going to be a 'passenger'.)
Another option might be to post here:

Hope you have a great trip.

Thanks both Les & Sigmund, I appreciate the words of advice, missing the 'traffic' and asking around at Dalhousie might work.
As for the preparation, fully equipped is not negotiable, don't think that will be a problem, I generally over-do it, too much fuel and water, recovery gear & and photos.
