lozza,
Went to the tip in August 2002. Everone in party were in tents of varying size and make. Depending where you are going and how long you are staying in the one place. If staying in camp grounds/caravan parks, a light weight tent should be ok. If camping out overnight. a swag would be ok. The overriding factor is whether the swag/s had built in nets. Bities can be a bother. Even though you are way up there it can still get cool enough at night for a blanket. Hope this helps in some way.
Cheers

Go the Swag and get a big mozzie net to hang from a tree/tent pole off the roof rack. carry a tarp for/if any wet nights.

Lozza If your a couple use a southern cross double swag it has biult in mozzie net.
If alone southerncross singles also have biult in nets. And if your not sure if your going to be a couple get one of each.

All the best

Eric thanks for the reply, checked southern cross web site swags look good,do you find them hot on the cape, and do you get condensation inside.

Lozza No they are ok they have a good sized rear window and a good sized lid so the ventalation isnt to bad.
The only thing I have found is in the rain or drizzle in a hot climate they arnt to good . On our singles and double swag I have had a awning sewn into the head end of the swags and they roll up and stay in place with velcro tape when not in use. The awnings cost about $ 40 to get sewn in. The condesation can also be a bit of a problem in cold camping but with the rear awning out this helps. The awning is full width and comes out about 900 mm.
Hope this helps
All the best

Troopster,
My mate and I havent decided as yet what date to go in june,it took me a while to find somebody with the spare time that was interested in going,we want to go the sooner the better,of course we need to dodge the wet.
However our departure date is flexible,it would be good to meet up with other travellers we intend be away 3 to 4 weeks.
