At last, one of the many tossers who get pleasure from mis-use and abuse of the CB radio network gets what he deserves.

Trouble is, GB, this tugger is just the tip of the iceberg.

Maybe ACMA have a few extra dollars to catch a few more.........?

A conviction is great but don't hold your breath waiting for descent penalty.

And they're only charging him with doing it for a couple of months, he'd be one of those tossers whose been doing it for the last 5 years!!

Give him 6 months imo.

He must have been an awesome pest for them to go after him.

I never get baited by them, unlike others and just turn it down or ignore. He obviously had a base station so they could track him.

Quote from the ABC article "and two counts of possessing a radio communication device without a licence."

That possibly means he had modified equipment. If he was using standard approved CB equipment he would have been operating under the CB class licence and no other licence required.

Hi all,

The communications devices would be Amateur Radios and a Linear Amplifier. Since the change over of the licencing system years ago (in the 90's) most (80%) of CB Radio operators own them, and are not licenced to have them.

The penalty would be:
1) We are taking your Amateur Radios and Linear Amplifier.
2) We are fining ?? $'s.
3) Now be a good man from now on.

Cheers P&J

Or he had wound up his CB to 25 watts, which makes it a licensable radio communication device, also might be the reason they could track him down. Maybe

There is a bloke in Hedland who gives the truckies a hard time.
They all hate him. As you know, there are hundreds of movements through Hedland every day and if anyone finds out who he is, he's in big trouble.
Had to turn the CB off it was so rank.

Back in the late 90's here in Perth there were a couple of people on the old AM CB's that would come over the top of everyone and be loud, boisterous and annoying.

I reckon I first heard him over ten years ago and was very witty to listen to at times.
He didn't like people using CB radio to conduct their business, eg. truck drivers and in more recent times the road workers who used the CB.
If you want to listen to some of his conversations type in Today Tonight Mr Throat Punch on Youtube and have a listen.

I can remember about 35 years ago I had a unit fitted to my falcon. Sitting inside the house with the stereo on listening to music with the old man. Suddenly a tirade of childish swearing came out of the speakers. ?????
Looked outside and here is the young brother mouthing off on the radio. Dad hauled him out of car and gave him the (politically incorrect now) hiding he deserved!
Never touched it again...lol

I remember two incidences with CB radio when I was young (er) and foolish. Both incidences in the early 1990's, the first was mine, the second not mine but was real.

1. Quite a few obviously very young (pre teen) kids mouthing off at all and sundry for a couple of evenings. I took a drive in my car, which was an '86 Magna Elite (very invisible car at the time, who drives a retirement car at age 25?) to where I suspected they were parked. Yep, there they were in Dad's mini-bus. So I turned off the lights and parked at the end of the street. "We're gonna rock your roof!" Oh are you now, kids? "We're gonna break your windows!" Is that right, kids? "We're gonna rape your cat!" So I plugged in the 100 watt shooting spotty I had with me and pointed it at them. Why don't you come down here and say that, kids? I've never seen four kids exit a car and run inside faster!

2. There was a well known CB troublemaker in my area. Very much an adult, but not grown up! He also, conveniently, had a quarter wave ground plane antenna, very easy to see. So it didn't take too long to find his address. In this modern time of internet we'd probably just spam his name and address to every Nigerian bank in existance. But back then someone waited until he'd gone out and then cut his coax at the window and at the antenna, then mailed it to him a foot at a time. Funnily enough he was much calmer after he bought new coax, and a new radio after he fried his finals.

Totaly agree. There's a time and place for such colourful language, the public domain is no place for it.
Having said that, equaly annoying are those that take CB protocols to the extreme. The Capt. Mainwarings and their Yankee - Zulu - Charlie - Foxtrot gibberish.

By the time you've spelled out your message I'm either bored stiff or out of range.
Those days are long gone.

Cheers.....Lionel.
