Hi All, my daughter is experiencing problems with her 2003 TD Patrol. She teaches in APY lands in SA ( very remote for non - crow eaters) If she were to limp it to
Alice Springs does anyone know a reliable place to get it looked at. The Nissan dealership there has received some unfavourable comments. Alice is a lot closer than
Port Augusta.
Many Thanks
Bruce

G'Day Bruce,
I'm no Nissan expert BUT..... is it the same as a Ford Mavrick? I'm just thinking maybe the Ford dealership could help you out.
Fab.

Bruce, your question was discussed and problem addressed last year in thread 109508...... why ask the same question again, or is this a time warp?

Hi
John, The question really this time is about a reliable service in
Alice Springs. FYI, the question last time was a query about what might be the problem. After the last post I cleaned the MAF as per some advice from this
forum when I was up there( Sept 2014). The vehicle then had a trouble free run until last weekend when the problem reoccured. My daughter is going to Alice this weekend. We figured she might get the vehicle there to have the MAF cleaned again or the issue assessed as she is not able to do anything herself - it would be a 30 hour 2600km trip for me to get up there and even then it may not be the same problem.
Hope this clarifies your question
Regards
Bruce

Bruce,
Can't help with a Nissan mechanic in the Alice, but if you
check an archived thread 58912, it has a couple of options there.
If your daughter was to limp into the Alice, would another vehicle be able to follow her to provide assistance? If not, it may pay to contact Outback Vehicle Recovery (08) 89521087, and they could pick the vehicle up on a tilt tray, and take it into the Alice. I'd get a quote first!!!
As the Nissan is a 3L, it might give the daughter's handbag a battering to get it repaired and going reliably, especially from such a remote area.
No affiliation with any of businesses mentioned above,
Bob

Outback charge an arm and a leg out that way..
mind you your really stuck for choice.
they all charge fairly hefty fees.
There are some good 4by shops especially around the "one steel" area of industrial estate.
other option is the diesel service in alice near car dealerships on the hwy.
theyve got a good reputation
Any towing is going to be pricy
regardless of company

Thanks mountain man, She will limp the car into Alice with another vehicle following. I have checked out some mechanics via this thread and have made contact for her to drop car off off at firm called " Country Diesel Maintenance". They have been recommended.
Cheers

Thanks
John, fair call about the trade!! I think she would agree with you right now! Although to be fair to the vehicle it has served her trouble free for a year and a half until Sept last year then a hiccup and now another. The frustrating thing is the remoteness and the lack of anyone locally with mechanical knowledge.
Cheers

Last time we were up that way we were recommended "Alice Off Road Mechanical Services" by our 4WD crowd in
Melbourne. They used to run tag along trips from
Melbourne and had apparently had their vehicles serviced there. We did not need a mechanic in Alice, so did not use them but here are the contact details:
6 Brown St,
Alice Springs. 08 8952 8733

With a Ford of course, we have been to the Ford dealership a couple of times for servicing and repairs, and found them quite good. The dealership covers several different brands, and while not Nissan, they should be able to work on your daughter's. I know other
Alice Springs mechanics have been recommended in a number of threads her by those who do or have lived there.

you have found the problem the MAF sensor cleaning them is usually not a long term solution. Buy one off ebay for approx. $100 Nissan 100s As you have cleaned it it very easy to change with a screw driver she should be able to do that.

Greenant,
The MAF sensor is not the problem, it is only telling you that there is a problem.
Cleaning/changing the MAF sensor only allows you to drive so far, till it needs cleaning again.
What causes the MAF sensor to need cleaning so often?
That's the real problem!
Disco.
