Hello All, I have ordered 1.8 powder coated roof rack for my 2012 Prado. The sales people are saying it costs about $230 to FIT it. Does that seem reasonable? Is there much work in fitting a rack? About 2 hours work, is what they are allowing. Seems a lot but I am not sure thanks johno

Depends on how the rack will be mounted

If you already have roof rails and are going to be using clamping bars then I would say 30 minutes

If you don't have rails and they need to install rails and then depending on what sort of bars and mounts then an hour would be reasonable

Thanks Guys. It comes with 6 legs that bolt onto the roof. I think the problem is lifting it up. That shouldn't be that hard though with mates. Johno

Howdy
Irecently had a rhino platform fitted to my Prado 150 GX which needed the legs added to the roof and then the rack fitted. I'm not sure how long it took but the fitting cost was only $80. This was at autobarn. I think some of the 4wd chain stores have quite high fitting costs.

cheers

If the Prado doesn't have roof bars and the rack bolts into the already existing holes, then it shouldn't take more than 30 minutes.
Make sure that they put sealant on the bolts or the roof will leak.
Similar to PT Cruisers and Land Cruisers although Toyota does weird things with Land Cruisers in having the holes in different places in the USA and OZ.
I used to work for the importer of Baja racks and did a video of fitting to a PT Cruiser.\

It does taken more than 30 minutes, I have done it!
If it does have roof rails, they have to be removed first.

I often have a look on YouTube for any helpful 'how to' videos. This may be of help to remove the existing roof rails:
