2002 3.0TD Nissan ST Auto or manual wagon... Has anyone used these for towing 3 tonne over 20000 km or more. I have a large off-road caravan & cruising Oz, & need reasonable economy & total reliability. I've heard that with serious off-road work, the 3L engine oil pump loses prime, so Nissan shortens the dipstick & adds a higher mark to increase the oil depth. Does Nissan recommend 5000km oil changes? Why does the manual have Gross combination mass 6200kg, & the auto only 5500kg? Any info appreciated.

The 4.2 TD seems to be showing itself to be the more reliable of the nissan engines. That would be my pick for a towing vehicle.

The manual has a higher GVM because of the decreased engine braking of an auto box. I know two seperate couples who drive the 3.0TD with a big van on the back and both rave about it. They say it does amazing milage compared to other vehicles they have towed with.
