someone told me that the exhaust particulate filter caused so many problems that it was removed from all models after 2007. is this true?

I don't believe so, although it may have been modified to cause less problems with Vehicles that spent almost all their lives in stop start traffic.
But in any event this is a question you're likely to get a more informed answer from the Pajero owners

The particulate filter was deleted from 2010 (NT) models on.

It was only on the NS model with AUTO trans from 2007-2009. Some early NTs also came with them so need to
check if you are looking at an 09 model.
