Just an update on the Terracan I purchased last October. Have 9000Kms on the clock and it is going great. Admitedly I have not been "off road" much as yet but that will happen over the next few months. I really cannot find one little fault as yet. I am hoping that the wiring doesn't play up by 15000Kms as one
forum user said could happen.(Michelle I think - how is the new baby going?)
I see a few of them getting around
Bathurst where I live so they are slowly getting out there. Have noticed a new model getting advertised on TV.
Anyway I am very happy with it so far and will give another report at 15000Kms and hope I am still just as happy.
By the way this would have to be the best
forum in Australia. I
check it every day and it is a wealth of information and worth a few laughs as
well.
I love the way you guys in Victoria have such a great time and Ruth from
Birdsville is such a great person. I have not yet been to
Birdsville but look out, I am going to the races in 2005. I hope to be on the road for a few weeks out that way with my wife, my Terracan,
Camp-O-Matic Camper Trailer and plenty of homebrew and meet up with plenty of other great Aussies.

Steven,
just to rub salt into your wounds, my dealer rang me last week and told me my GXL TD Manual will be here Mar 17! I ordered at the start of January. It does however appear that there are a number of GXs now coming into the country as all of my local Toyota dealers seem to have TD GXs as
test drive vehicles.
I reckon the wait for the GXL will be worth it though

Yeaah thanks for that Rob!
I ordered on Jan 9. Dealer advises it will be on
the wharf at
Adelaide on May 3 with a further 8-10 days to unwrap it, give it the $1100 wash and deliver it to me.
Still, That is better than some one else I know who is getting one from another dealer. That guy is phoning the dealer every day and the dealer has stopped returning his calls and cannot give him a date at all. At least my dealer is keeping me informed at every step. I'm not complaining too much as we have agreed on a trade in price on my current car this just means that I am driving around in their car for a few months!

Good to read your update Brian. I bought my wife a Terracan back in June, and she clocked up just over 10,000 kms and it also goes great. We have had only one problem, the connector to the alternator snapped off. The dealer was great, had it fixed in an hour. We, like you, have only done some 'offroading'. We look forward to lots of travel in the future and hope that it says relative maintenance free.
I am hoping to lift the Terrcan shortly, but cannot decide who to do it. Have you looked into lifting yours?

Haven't looked at lifting as yet. I tow a camper that weighs about 1 tonne all loaded and it hardly lowers the back at all. The Terracan does have gas shocks as standard so I am hoping that a lift will not be required in my case. I don't intend to tow the camper in real "Off Road" conditions. Just a few rough dirt roads and the like.

When we do go I have portable shower, portapotti so will be completely independent. Its over a year away yet so I will be prepared when I do go. There has been some negative publicity about
Birdsville when the races are on but having read previous posts from Ruth at
Birdsville, what can you expect when literally thousands descend on
Birdsville for a few days. We all have to learn to be patient and tolerant in those circumstances.
Looking forward one day to meeting Ruth as she is a wealth of info on this
forum.
