Members may be interested to know that , todays vehicles ( approx. 1990 onwards ) will give two thirds of their alternators' rated output at , engine idle speed . 90 percent is generally available at 2/3 of engine max speed , often lower .
So , to recharge a battery in a reasonable time period does not require a fast idle or ' brick on the throttle ' .
