Comment: Kennedy Ranges to Mount Augustus (World largest Monolith no less!) W.A.

We climbed Mt Augustus in July 2004...it was hard going but great views. I imagine in the next instalment you will do the climb too!! After that we wound our way back to south to the highway near Monkey Mia..got lost a couple of times, but all good fun. Met the most interesting couple at Mt Augustus. They had driven a morris minor (I think) from England across Europe/Asia then on boat and landed at Derby. He got a job on Fossil Downs Station, then left that to head south .. then years later became a composer and went back to Fossil Downs where he spent months out bush camped beside waterholes composing his music. Just wish I could remember his name! They had no fridge, powdered milk, nothing that needed to be kept cold, very self sufficient.

Hi Viv, yep it seems to attract it's fair share of the eccentric up that way. We met quite a few characters along the way. I hate to disappoint you but I didn't climb the whole thing. Big mistake. Next time perhaps. I'd love to explore the station country between Augustus and Kumarina in more depth. It looked to be amazing.
