Does anyone know how to reset the timing belt warning light for 98 Hilux? Apparently the instrument cluster has to be removed but I have no further details as to how to proceed.

Thanks.

My above post should read 'for a 98 Hilux'. I do not have 98 Hilux's.

Squid my old hilux has a black plastic plug on the cluster face remove the plug and with something long & thin push the black shaft back in which is attached to your speedo numbers this will shut the light off until the next 100,000ks

Cheers steve

Thanks Steve but my model does not have this plastic plug. I only wish it was that simple. For some reason Toyota have decided that it should be a complicated process.

Cheers Squid.

If your Hilux has a tacho (apparently some do not) and the timing belt light is on, remove the speedo and swap the tagged wire across to the empty screw hole nearby. If you change the belt before the light comes on there is a different procedure. I have a copy of the proceedure from the Toyota factory workshop manual.
To remove the speedo, the trim around the speedo has to be removed and then four screws to take out the cluster. The speedo cable has to be release from behind the cluster before it will come out.
Mr Toyota has made it harder to reset the light, maybe to stop people resetting the light and not changing the belt ie- If the vehicle was being sold.
If you need a copy of the proceedure use "Send Member Message" for my contact details.
