Spot on John & Val, you have set down perfectly in words many of the thoughts I've had during my own travels.

As I see it, the big question is "How much of the enjoyment of remote travel is the remoteness itself, along with the expected solitude it brings ?" That part is surely decreasing, as you say, year by year.

I wonder whether in 30 years time someone will write a similar piece, lamenting the same loss of remoteness, but relative to that time ? Something like "before the CSR was sealed only 20 vehicles were the norm in the camping areas, whereas now it's more like 80".
