OK, what are they??? The graphics don't tell the story... so can you please explain?

Very Sorry for not explaining. I was just plain lazy!!
The pictures show the predicted path the object would make on the ground. Now if this object should pass in front of a star then the star will dim as we will be in the shadow. The trick is to predict which star is will eclipse. This is done by others and the results published.
People on this path measure how long this eclipse will be and its start and stop time. These data are taken from observers at many points and is used to help determine the shape of the object,
