Comment: A disasterous weekend and the importance of simple spares for Trailers

Prevention is always better than cure.
Imagine if it had happened on a busy road. You could have killed someone. Probably not yourself though.

Not saying you, but so many people don't bother to check their vehicles regularly. Figure it hasn't been used much, or through a hard life, and assume it'll be right. You can carry all the spares in the world, but it will come to nought if the part that breaks throws you in front of a B double.

Like the people who caravan once or twice a year for a couple of weeks each time. Death on 4 wheels.

Good point, My aim always, is to be as safe as possible on the road, so that's good for my family and good for other road users. My trailer has brakes so it has a thorough inspection every year plus I have a mechanical background and check over my vehicle and trailer thoroughly before a trip. Unfortunately like anything mechanical, it can fail without notice. Even the US Space missions had a few failures, Challenger comes to mind and they pumped many millions of dollars into that fizzer! Planes fall out of the sky, trucks catch on fire, trains derail and the list goes on. So we can only do our best but sometimes its not enough. It was just lucky I was on a bush track and travelling slowly! Regards Michael
