I wish to advise that CALM and the Ngaanyatjarra Council currently have a no camping policy anywhere in the Gibson Desert Nature Reserve. That includes that part of the Gunbarrell Highway and Gary Highway that passes through the Reserve. No permits are required to travel through, however if you want to camp you are required to apply for a permit, which is not forthcoming at the present time.

Whilst not camping in the Gibson Desert Nature Reserve is not a problem who the hell is going to police it if you decide to camp? Normally 50 meters either side of a gazetted road is open space. I wonder if the Gunbarrel is gazetted.

Well no one else seems to know I'll fill you in Willem. They have a squadron of F1-111's and a few apache attack choppers. For good measure they hoped to get a few cheap missles from Iraq but there's a delivery problem. Camp at your own risk!
