Hi Bucky and Lyn
Thanks for that, it is a pleasure to share and I hope it may kindle the idea for more to head out there and do it. You hear a lot of people that would like to do it but get put off by horror stories of wrecked vehicles and those corrugations. The people that usually have the trouble are the one that try to do it in break neck speeds and in the bare minimum of time. One story that we were told at Ilkurlka and I can not believe it, that one group of very drunk people travelled from
Coober Pedy to Ilkurlka in a day and a half - to me this sounds impossible as it took us 5 days. Having said that they had many broken components on there vehicles and intended to be in
Laverton the next day. There is a lot to see out there and would be quite easy to spend more time out there than the 7 days that we did.
Do your homework, drive slow, keep your tyre pressures down just like soft sand driving and you will have an enjoyable trip and see the pure beauty that the
Great Victoria Desert has on offer, as
well as all that history out there.
Cheers
Stephen and Fiona
