Comment: auxiliary battery comparo, what's on YOUR wishlist?

Hi Peter. A good article. I reckon it would be of even more value if you were to include some analysis as to camping needs and what this means for battery size. ie; 40 litre fridge (as a fridge), two 12 volt fluros (5 hours per day) equals ?? amps etc. People are always asking just what this appliance uses in power and what that means in respect to battery capacity. Of course using the fridge as a freezer adds more complexity. It wouldn’t need to be much but as a ready reckoner as to power needs while camping, it would add real value.

Cheers Mick

Mick,

yes, I agree it can be a bit daunting for some to do the sums....
But it's easy and straightforward, all one has to do is read the manual of the fridge, and find the wattage of the lights and multiply these figures with their individual run times in a typical 24hr period.
Much depends on the op's planned re-charging intervals, daily, twice daily, is there solar etc...
There are a gazillion of options/combinations/preferences, which I normally look at on a case by case basis to be able to suggest the best battery type and size.
Thanks for bringing up this all important issue which should be part of any pre-trip-planning.

cheers, Peter
