i have a new 200 series landcruiser,have the same prob. Why Toyota uses these mirrors is beyond me no good for reversing a van ,boat or anything. I was thinking of exactly what you have done thanks.

It is good to see others have a similar problem.
As a matter of interest, the guy I dealt with mentioned that it was once illegal to have convex mirrors giving a distorted image but now that very same requirement is part of the existing Australian Design Rules.
My previous vehile (1999 Jackaroo SE) had just the left hand mirror so configured and that was bad enough.

I am of the opinion that the restricted blind spot coverage is still "safer" than an incorrect judgement of distance, especially when the blind spot can be corrected by a $5.00 stick on wide angle mirror addition to the original mirror.
It is amazing sometimes how ADR implementations are derived at and forced on vehicle manufacturers.
