Hi Mick,
Similar thing happened to me out from Mt Isa - luckly I only sheared off 4 of the 6 studs before finding the problem. I also had wheel studs in my spares kit. Rim was buggered and I couldn't lower the spare from under the Hilux tub. Plenty of people just sped past but one couple stopped to help. Got the studs out OK and spare on eventually.
Thanks for the blog - I need to start putting a few in myself!
