We completed the CSR in 14 Days, after planning on 20 days and this included a 2 night at
Durba Hills and had no trouble except fpr a staked tyre in our partners ute when the went off the track to let some southbound card pass
in all we passed 50 southbound cars, some days none busiest day was 18.
in all but our last
campsite at
stretch lagoon we were completly alone never having to share. not that we shunned company but is was great to be able to shower without worrying about others.
Fire wood a concern before the trip turned out to be no problem, we had a chain saw and were able to gather firewood when ever we stopped.
the most unusual incident was nearly at the end we could hear overe the 2 way smeone needing to be towed over dune numbe 5, when we got there it turned out to be a Isuzu 4WD truck with a large shiny ( not for much longer) camper on the back, he was accompanied by a LC who was snatching him over, we said as we passed, mate this is the baby dune there are 970 to go and many of them twice as hard as that.
The damage they were doing to the track we were gratefull that they had only just started out.
we had to re do 5 dunes in the prado and our partner n the Nissan ute a manual re did 8 or 9.
most re do's were because we were trying to reduce the bounce on the dugup ramp up and just did not have the revs to complete the task.
As all csr travellers should know its all about tyre pressure, get that right and its a breze. for us n the prado it was 25 in front and 28 psi rear , the nissan ute needed 5 psi less so he was running 20 and 23psi
Fuel we had a drun at 23 but barly needed it, the prado had only used 90 litres from
Wiluna and the nissan 105 so we were able to utalise the drum with a top up at
well 33 of 45 litres we only needed another 130 when we reached
Halls Creek total fuel 265 the Nissan 285 so we could easily have made it to 33 and then
Halls Creek, both vehicles having 180 litre tanks and one Jerry can which we did not need, but the track will vary from trip to trip so next time it could be more.
because we gained time we went up to the bungles for a couple of days, back now at
Halls Creek and on to Mulin to catch up with Marc ( Timber) then on to Alice and home via the Great Central.
I will post some pics and further info on our return.
