Comment: Mereenie Loop road and Wallace Rockhole

Hi Rose,
We stocked up on groceries in Renmark, after the quarantine border check and then not again until Yulara where there is a well stocked supermarket. I carry dried and packet foods where possible (milk, some fruits, some vegetables, pulses and grains) to conserve weight and space but am able to store quite a lot of meat and other frozen food as we have a big 2 door fridge/freezer. Also have space to carry adequate other foods and we only ever run short on fresh fruit and veg.
There is limited food available in Oodnadatta, didn't notice in Marree or William Creek. Also at the Marla roadhouse. The other couple with us managed to buy white sliced bread when they need it..I think at Marree roadhouse..and at a price. Carry flatbreads, flour and make your own damper or breads maybe.
Its a long way to backtrack if you go to Alice before Uluru.
If you come via the Mereenie Loop to Alice as we did, there is a supermarket at Hermannsburg at the roadhouse although I didnt have a look in it, also limited food at Wallace Rockhole..a small Aboriginal community which is a lovely little camp ground to stay in...cultural tour for $10 and good value.
I can empathise with you re the hungry 14 yr old son...we have a (now adult) son and three daughters all of whom had unfillable stomachs!

Hope this helps,
It is a great trip.

Heather
