Hi all,
does anyone know if you can hire satellite phones at either Oodnadatta or Mt Dare and return at Birdsville.
I thought I read somewhere that you could hire in Birdsville and drop in Oodnadatta . just checking if the reverse applies.
thanks

Howard

I'm fairly sure, from our trip out there last year that you can hire from the police at a number of spots in that neck of the woods and drop off at the other end.

Ruth should be able to set you straight in that regard, or give the blue boy at Birdsville a call.

Cheers

Hi Howard and Rosco - yes you can hire sat phones from Oodnadatta Police and Birdsville Police and was talking to David at Mt dare last week and you can now hire them there (or drop off there) which is really good because some people don't want to cross SD and go to Oodna. About ?? $23 per day. Pretty good insurance is you ask me.

We are hiring one at Mt Dare and dropping off at Birdsville for a Simpson crossing.

Pick-up: Mt Dare 18th April 2004
Return: Birdsville 23rd April 2004

Costs are $23.10 per day and $3.75 per minute for calls within Australia

Thanks , Rosco,Ruth and Richard
sorry for delay in responding but I've been up the farm for the weekend,
I'll get on to Mt Dare tomorrow.
Bets the hell out of having to hire for 3 weeks when you only need for 1.

Richard it looks like I'll be 1 or 2 days ahead of your group, am hopeing to depart Mt Dare /Dalhousie around the 16th.
what route were you intending to take across the SD?

Ruth, I expect your park will look at bit different to when I last visited during the 2000 Olympics it was pretty dry at the end of September.I intend to spend a few days looking around as last time Birdsville was a quick overnight er coming home from the Gulf.

thanks again everyone
regards
Howard

Richard,
initial planning is rig, colson, french, elebena, waa, aak, french, qaa
depends on fuel usage as I have a petrol job.

Dave from Mt Dare recommended rig, aak, french , said the french is to boring(repetitive).
Good news is he also told me his 4.8 petrol patrol did french line on only 128 litres on his last trip to birdsville.
