If I can add..... travel insurance often includes cover for vehicle excess & an option to increase it. Mighty Campers have cheaper camper vans than the big names. If you want to use free camping get a van with a loo.Queenstown - park on the Glenorchy road & enjoy the walk along the lake back in; and for groceries use the supermarkets in the suburbs.
