We were up there about a fortnight ago and it's a damn shame that the area is being burnt because some people get a thrill out of it. The area from the Alice to a fe 100k's south is all totally burnt. It's just vandalism and nothing more.
You will see plenty of other extensive burnt areas as you head north.
